Claude Code's official plugin directory, used safely

Our verdict

The sensible first stop when you want to add skills, commands, agents or MCP servers to Claude Code. It is the marketplace Claude Code registers for you, with internal plugins built by Anthropic and partner plugins that went through a submission review. Anthropic's own README warns it doesn't control what external plugins contain, so read the details pane first, because plugins can run hooks and MCP servers. Versions can lag the plugin author's repo, so check which version you got.

What it does

anthropics/claude-plugins-official is a GitHub repository holding the claude-plugins-official marketplace. /plugins contains plugins developed by Anthropic (for example commit-commands); /external_plugins contains third-party plugins from partners and the community. Each plugin can bundle slash commands, agents, skills and an MCP config. Claude Code adds this marketplace automatically the first time you open an interactive session, so plugins install with /plugin install <name>@claude-plugins-official or appear under /plugin > Discover. Licences are per plugin; the directory itself is Apache-2.0.

How builders use it

  • In a session, run /plugin and browse the Discover tab, or /plugin install commit-commands@claude-plugins-official.
  • Read the plugin's details pane (hooks, MCP servers, files) and choose a scope before installing.
  • In scripts or on a fresh machine, run claude plugin marketplace add anthropics/claude-plugins-official, then claude plugin install <name>@claude-plugins-official.
  • Treat any install command with a different @marketplace name as third-party and review its repo first.

What to expect

A short, reviewed set of Claude Code plugins your whole team installs the same way.

Copy this: Install from the official marketplace

# From your shell / CI, on a fresh machine:
