Claude Code

Our verdict

One of the strongest general-purpose coding agents for builders who live in the terminal. It works across the whole repo, runs your tests and commits. Best results come from a CLAUDE.md with project conventions and small, well-described tasks.

What it does

Claude Code is Anthropic's agentic coding tool. It runs in your terminal (with IDE and web surfaces), understands your codebase, edits files, runs shell commands and works with git.

How builders use it

  • Ask it to explore a codebase before touching it, then plan, then implement.
  • Hand it a failing test and let it iterate until the test passes.
  • Keep project rules in a CLAUDE.md file so every session starts with the same context.
  • Connect MCP servers for issue trackers, databases or browsers.

What to expect

You stay in the reviewer seat: describe the change, review the diff, merge. Anthropic's own best-practices guide recommends the explore → plan → code → commit loop.

Copy this: Explore → plan → code

Read the files related to <feature> and explain how it works today. Do not write code yet.
Then propose a step-by-step plan for <change>, listing the files you will touch and the tests you will add.
Wait for my OK, then implement the plan, run the test suite, and fix failures until it passes.
Finish with a short summary and a suggested commit message.
