SolidCraft: open-source parametric CAD your agent can drive

Added NewCopyable prompt below

Published Last verified Released

Our verdict

Worth a look if you design brackets, enclosures or 3D-printed parts and want an agent to build editable, parameter-driven models rather than one-off meshes. The MCP server can drive the open app so you watch each step, and the result stays a normal feature timeline you can keep editing. It is very new (first release 9 October 2026) and the README calls it early but usable for simple parts, so expect bugs. Downloads aren't code-signed yet; install from the official repo only.

What it does

SolidCraft (tangency-labs/solidcraft, moved from bherbruck/solidcraft) is an MIT or Apache-2.0 parametric CAD application written in Rust. It has constrained sketches, solid features on an editable timeline, parameters and assemblies, STEP/3MF/STL import and export, and runs on Windows, macOS, Linux and in the browser. solidcraft-cli runs command scripts, measures parts, renders snapshots and starts a stdio MCP server whose tools include execute, batch, measure, set_parameter, screenshot and export. File access is limited to the design's folder plus folders you allow with --allow-path.

How builders use it

  • Install from the official releases (or winget, Snap or Flatpak, as listed in the README), or try the browser version first.
  • Add the MCP server: claude mcp add solidcraft -- solidcraft-cli mcp.
  • To watch the agent work, start the app with solidcraft --control PORT and run the MCP server with --connect 127.0.0.1:PORT.
  • Ask for a small part driven by named parameters, then change a parameter yourself and check that it rebuilds.

What to expect

A parameter-driven part you can edit by hand, measured and exported to STEP or STL for printing.

Copy this: MCP setup + first part

# Official source: github.com/tangency-labs/solidcraft
# Claude Code:
claude mcp add solidcraft -- solidcraft-cli mcp

# Optional: watch the agent in the running app
solidcraft --control 7878
# then run the MCP server with: solidcraft-cli mcp --connect 127.0.0.1:7878

Ask your agent:
Using SolidCraft, model a wall bracket with parameters width, height and hole_diameter: sketch, extrude, add two fillets and two holes. Measure the volume, take a screenshot, and export bracket.step.
