Prompt videos in code with Remotion and a coding agent
Added New⧉ Copyable prompt below
Our verdict
A practical way to get repeatable motion graphics, explainers and social clips without a timeline editor: the video is React code, so you can version, edit and re-render it. The official setup is four commands. Licence: Remotion is free (including commercial use) for individuals, for-profit companies of up to 3 employees, non-profits and evaluation; larger for-profit companies need a paid Company License.

What it does
Remotion is a framework for making videos programmatically with React. Its docs describe prompting videos with coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex, Kimi Code and OpenCode, and it publishes Remotion Agent Skills (remotion-dev/skills) that teach agents how to work in a Remotion project.
How builders use it
- Create a blank project with npx create-video --yes --blank my-video, then cd my-video.
- Install the agent skills with npx remotion skills add.
- Run npm run dev for the live preview, and start your agent in a second terminal in the same folder.
- Describe one short scene at a time and review it in the preview before asking for the next.
What to expect
A video project you can tweak by prompt and render again, instead of a one-off export you can't edit.
Copy this: Setup + first prompt
npx create-video --yes --blank my-video
cd my-video
npx remotion skills add
npm run dev
# in a second terminal, in my-video:

Make a 10-second 1080x1080 intro: our product name "<name>" fades in over a dark background, then three feature lines slide in one by one. Use one composition, keep timing in constants at the top of the file, and tell me how to render it to MP4.Related discoveries
