Jina Reader: any URL to LLM-ready text

Added ⧉ Copyable prompt below

Our verdict

The fastest way to feed a single web page to a model: no SDK, no crawler setup, just a URL prefix. Ideal for one-off research and lightweight automations. For whole-site crawls or heavy volume, reach for Firecrawl or Crawl4AI instead.

What it does

Jina Reader converts any URL to LLM-friendly input via the simple prefix https://r.jina.ai/. It renders pages in a headless browser by default, strips navigation and boilerplate, returns Markdown, and reads PDFs too. It works without an API key at 20 requests per minute; a free key raises that to 500. The Reader service code is on GitHub. The models behind Reader (ReaderLM-v2, jina-vlm) are licensed CC-BY-NC 4.0, so running them yourself commercially needs a separate licence; this entry covers only the hosted Reader API.

How builders use it

  • Prefix a docs or article URL and paste the result into your chat or agent.
  • Call it from an n8n or Zapier HTTP step to summarise new links.
  • Use it inside a research script before chunking or summarising; add the X-Target-Selector header to keep only the article body.

What to expect

Less boilerplate and navigation noise in your context window, for almost no effort.
